Petrojvic Blasting Company @ Gorbals

Love, love, love The Petrojvic Blasting Company. You can find them around LA in various places, most of which are free of charge, but it’s all always good to tip those extremely hard-working musicians. Literally, they are everywhere I go. OK, I admit, I have a small crush on them, so I might have been stalking them a little bit, but nevertheless, we usually show up at the same places. Sunday: Hollywood Farmer’s Market and Bar 107. Take a small break during the work week and start the weekend early on Thursday @ Gorblas, Spaceland or Piano Bar and other popular downtown places. And in my car – blasting the Blasting Co. from their $7 CD.

When I hear them play my heart melts and my soul cries for the [blank] – insert a Eastern European country. Tuba, trumpet, puzon, accordion, cymbals – they are a walking orchestra of authenticity, determination and originality. From Balkan sounds in line with Goran Bregovic through Chicago Prohibition to hot New Orleans – the Co. takes you on a unbelievable journey, where everybody smiles, dances with hands up and drinks vodka. They are simply too talented, too nice and too humble not to like. There is nothing else to say, except that if they are going to play at my wedding I need to hurry to find the right person before they get too popular/expensive to hire. I guess I gotta sign up now :)
